National Institutes of Health (NIH) will provide the public with open online access to findings from its funded research. It means that all the research papers from this major Institution will be available in PubMed no later than 12 months after publication in a journal. This law has been signed by President Bush as an answer to many researchers like nobel prize awarded Harold Varmus: “Facilitated access to new knowledge is key to the rapid advancement of science” said this smart researcher and President of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Many journals give open access to their old papers but nowadays you or your University/Institution has to pay for recent paper access, which is not possible for many minor centres. Anybody in Europe want to follow NIH? I hope yes.
